[Rang, mercifully, does not throw a kernel at him. Nor does the movie choose to start at this awkward moment. Instead, he just looks at Rin for a moment, and thinks that whatever violence he deserves should be given to him only by Haru,]

To be honest, I didn't notice him at all in the morning. I was too distracted by the multiple illusions of you that were running around in front of me, and by how much I wanted to be near you.

[so he can't lie or tell the truth about haru's emotional state, which would have probably been incredibly BAD]

I did get to talk to him eventually. He was as distraught as anyone would have been -- as so many people were. Monika, Livio, Ylfa. Those are just some of the people who were upset. But Haru was sad and angry and he wanted, most of all, to figure out the truth, even though he knew it wouldn't help him.

It's why -- while everyone else accused me of killing you -- I told him that I didn't. It's why I made D say something at the end, during execution. Not that it helped Haru any.

[ Rin's shoulders hunch up as he listens to Rang, guilt heavy in his heart and in the draw of his frown. He has a lot of apologies to make and repentance to offer—he already knew that.
