He was the best. Captain of just—every sport he ever played. Good at everything, really. Nice to everyone. Smart, and funny, and caring.

Every sport? [ No. Reels it back. ] So you two were close?

Every sport. [ hehe. ] Yeah. We were best friends.

Has it been a long time since you saw him?

... He died when I was sixteen. Drowned.

So. It's been a while.

I do wish though—... I do still miss him though.

Yeah. He's the reason I want to be a professional swimmer. That was his dream.

I do! I love it. It, uh... sometimes the pressure of carrying two dreams is a lot, but there's nothing else I'd rather do.

... I used to think about... Back when it mattered, I used to think about maybe studying engineering in college. Just because it was one of the things Michael had said he might do.

Just because they're gone, doesn't mean you stop loving them, right? I still wanted to do things that would make my dad happy too.

Yeah. [ ... ] I guess it's just hard to know what would have made them happy though, actually.
