It's the same for me as well. [ nothing like fighting hard for your tomos... ]
Mmm.. it's a bit complicated. I did have one, they were my partner through a lot of things. Everyone else kinda.. fluctuated between friends and enemies.
I was the only soldier aboard the interstellar cruise. Everyone else on board originated from different places.
[ it's a bit of a reminder that there are some people that don't know of their situation. ] We were also dealing with a threat on the ship. Hence the complicated part.
The threat we faced isn't exactly well known, no. Especially since it's the kind that keeps quite hidden. But it ended up invading the planet a group of us barely managed to escape from. [ so ] The problem is it came on board with us. It's known as "Gnosia" and, technically, it's a kind of infection.
It can affect anything human-like, that only has one purpose and that's destroying, or in their mind, "saving" humanity. The way they do that is by erasing people... though, the results of it are a bit different than what happens to the kind of erasure done here.
[ me gripping this pc with paws tightly. i refuse to let it go. you're getting this lore. ]
There are other people aboard, but as the only soldier.. yes. It's a bit similar to the trial we have here except it's more of a day-by-day case. We group up to have a meeting, doing some discussions to decide who we think may be affected, put them into cold sleep... and hope that it'll end there. If we're unlucky, it keeps going as they try to pick us off one by one, and we try to secure the infectee.
[ the exhaustion there is still the same, but there's a bit more to it, while they discuss this situation. cause it's an exhausting process but.. it's why they're a bit familiar with what's kinda happening here. ]
You had to deal with that every day? That's... [ life would be hell? ] That's a lot for one person to shoulder. You shouldn't have to carry that kind of responsibility.

I'm okay. I thought you might want to rest. [ since they're dying
... and, just because it's thursday: ] There's no reason to put off going to sleep though. We'll see each other tomorrow.
[ doesn't move ]
no subject
I'm technically resting now. As much as I can be until I head back.
[ mm... ]
We will. [ sad to say that they say this reassuringly. ] And whatever happens, we'll go through it together on Saturday.
[ they also do not move, the fear from cyoa still eating at them so instead they lean just a little against him. ]
no subject
They're reassuring him again... When it should be the other way around. He just shifts so that they can get comfy. ]
We will, yeah. [ And before he fall into despair at the thought of having to solve another murder, he hard pivots his own train of thought. ]
What's the best thing that happened to you since you arrived here?
no subject
they can be comfy sitting now. ]
Best thing? [ ...
they go quiet for a moment, thinking it over. it's precisely why the answer doesn't come right away but, when it does ]
...Getting to meet some of you. I would never have had the opportunity to if I didn't show up here.

I know what you mean. It's the only thing keeping me from giving up. [ ... ] Did you have a lot of close friends before you came here?
no subject
Mmm.. it's a bit complicated. I did have one, they were my partner through a lot of things. Everyone else kinda.. fluctuated between friends and enemies.

Enemies? If you were in the military wouldn't you have a close crew?

[ a cruise?? he really had no idea ]
You had to deal with the threat on your own? Is that normal?
no subject

His grip tightens, unconsciously. ]
And you had to deal with the alone?
no subject

And you don't! Not here.

I've gotten used to it, and there was someone there with me every time so I wasn't really alone.. [ a bit more reassurances. it's fine, really! ]
..Yeah. Here, we have teams to rely on. And other friends. [ like each other. ]

but he's starting to relax, glancing up at the sky. ]
... If you get out, would you go back to all of that? Or is it over?
no subject
...I would be going back to that, yes. It doesn't.. really end.
